How You Can Be Saved from Damnation

The Bible teaches that all have sinned and are under the judgment of God, but through Jesus Christ, there is a way of salvation and rescue from eternal damnation. Salvation is not earned by works or religion, but received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The words of Scripture clearly show the way to be saved.

First, one must understand the problem: sin separates man from God. Paul wrote:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23, LSB)

And the consequence of sin is death:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, LSB)

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. He declared:

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10, LSB)

God’s love moved Him to provide a way of salvation. Jesus said:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, LSB)

Salvation begins with repentance—a turning away from sin and a turning toward God. Jesus preached:

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17, LSB)

It is followed by faith in Jesus Christ. Paul summarized the message:

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9, LSB)

Salvation is a gift—not earned—but given by God to those who believe:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, LSB)

Baptism is also commanded as an outward expression of faith and identification with Christ:

“He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.” (Mark 16:16, LSB)

The saved are not only forgiven but are made new creations, called to walk in obedience and holiness:

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, LSB)

To be saved from damnation is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, turn from sin, and walk with Him in faith. Jesus said:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” (John 5:24, LSB)

There is no other way:

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’” (John 14:6, LSB)

Today is the day of salvation. Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
