Helping Others Break Free from Occult Practices Biblically

This teaching guide provides a biblical and pastoral approach to helping others break free from occult practices. Using the Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) as the scriptural foundation, it includes seven steps with key verses and practical applications.

1. Begin With Prayer and Spiritual Discernment

Why: Deliverance begins with God. Seek His guidance before engaging.

James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God... and it will be given to him.”

1 Corinthians 2:14, “But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God... because they are spiritually examined.”

2. Approach With Love, Not Condemnation

Why: Gently restore with humility.

2 Timothy 2:24–25, “And the Lord’s slave must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all... with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition...”

Galatians 6:1, “Brothers, even if anyone is caught in any transgression... restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness.”

3. Explain the Truth of Scripture Concerning the Occult

Why: Many don’t realize these practices are condemned.

John 8:32, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Deuteronomy 18:10–12, "here shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices soothsaying or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer,11 or one who is an enchanter or a medium or a spiritist or one who inquires of the dead.12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh; and because of these abominations Yahweh your God will dispossess them from before you"

Isaiah 8:19, "Now when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?"

Leviticus 19:31, "‘Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh your God."

4. Lead Them to Renounce and Repent

Why: Freedom requires confession and cutting ties.

Acts 19:19–20, “Many of those who practiced magic brought their books... burning them before everyone.”

1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful... to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

5. Command All Ties to Darkness Be Broken in Jesus' Name

Why: Authority is in Jesus' name.

Mark 16:17, “These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons...”

James 4:7, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

6. Teach Them How to Walk in Freedom

Why: Ongoing discipleship protects from relapse.

Galatians 5:16, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

Ephesians 6:10–11, “Be strong in the Lord... Put on the full armor of God...”

7. Remind Them of Their New Identity in Christ

Why: Their identity protects them from deception.

2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation...”

1 John 4:4, “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”

Conclusion: Restoration and Guarding the Soul

Helping someone come out of the occult is about restoring them to full fellowship with the Father through Jesus Christ. Encourage them to stay grounded in Scripture, walk in the Spirit, and surround themselves with mature believers.

Proverbs 4:23, “Above all guard your heart, for from it flow the springs of life.”
